Questscope and its partners commit to the people they serve. This commitment does not change based on circumstances. In Syria, Questscope’s partner organization - the Syrian Society for Social Development (SSSD) - has provided life-saving assistance to thousands of internally displaced Syrians in Damascus over the past three months.
SSSD is currently working with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and other partners to rehabilitate more than 25 damaged buildings - schools, homes, local government buildings - to serve as temporary housing for Syrians who have had to flee their homes. Since November, SSSD has also provided blankets, clothes, carpets, and boots for more than 3,000 people in suburban and central Damascus.
Winter has made the war even more unbearable for families, many of whom have had to relocate three or more times. In the face of frequent movement and constant instability, many have struggled to find the necessary services for their children, especially educational and psychological care. Using its deep and committed volunteer base, SSSD has provided emergency informal education for several hundred kids currently living in shelters for internally displaced people. They have also worked with qualified students and graduates to train psychosocial counselors to provide trauma support and care to more than 400 children.
While war rages, Questscope and its partners remain resilient. In the face of violence and barriers that are both real and financial, we continue to reach out to those most in need. It is encouraging to see that while the need is tremendous, the community is ready and able to mobilize.
