Dr. Curt Rhodes of Questscope receives Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award
MARCH 2, 2014, Minneapolis, MN – Dr. Curt Rhodes, founder and international director of Questscope for Social Development in the Middle East, was awarded the 2014 Dr. Jean Mayer Global Citizenship Award from the Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University. The award was presented to Dr. Rhodes during the EPIIC (Education for Public Inquiry and International Citizenship) Symposium on the Future of the Middle East and North Africa held February 26 to March 2 at Tufts University.
Dr. Rhodes has spent over 30 years working with, and on behalf of, marginalized communities and young people throughout the Middle East. In 1988, he founded Questscope, an international non-governmental organization fostering social development in marginalized communities to empower their most vulnerable members. His efforts have resulted in the development of alternative education and peer-to-peer mentoring models that have impacted over 200,000 people since 2002.
The award, established in 1993 to honor former Tufts University President Dr. Jean Mayer, recognizes distinguished scholars and practitioners whose moral courage, personal integrity and passion for scholarship resonate his dictum that: "Scholarship, research and teaching must be dedicated to solving the most pressing problems facing the world." Dr. Rhodes joins past recipients Desmond Tutu, Dr. Paul Farmer and Muhammad Yunus.
