The conflict in Syria has fueled one of the worst humanitarian crises of our time. Half of all Syrians have been forced to flee from a brutal civil conflict. They have lost their homes and communities, and many children have been out of school for years, leaving them especially vulnerable.
The war’s massive human costs and widespread infrastructure damage create conditions in which COVID-19 is a serious additional threat. Millions of displaced Syrians living in crowded shelters and tent camps cannot practice social distancing.
They often lack clean water, making good hygiene difficult. Most lack access to routine healthcare services. For those in more stable locales, rising unemployment means vulnerable families must go hungry Questscope is a preferred partner of international funders, government ministries, and community organizations to respond to emergencies and deliver aid on a large scale.
The operational expertise of our local staff and volunteers enable us to efficiently deliver aid when formal infrastructure is weakened by conflict and chaos.
The decades-long relationships and knowledge of our local teams make it possible for us to reach vulnerable persons who are often invisible to outsiders.
In the current COVID-19 crisis, Questscope and SSSD are mobilizing to mitigate disease transmission among the displaced, low income, and other vulnerable communities in Jordan and Syria. Our teams are raising awareness about hygiene and social distancing, distributing food baskets and hygiene kits, conducting disinfection campaigns in public buildings, setting up clinics and isolation centers, and conducting education and youth programs online.
In addition to the 600,000 registered Syrian refugees in Jordan, there are also thousands of unregistered refugees. Because they are unregistered, there is no funding or safety net for these people. They cannot obtain legal documents, enroll their children in school, or apply for work permits.
Unregistered, female- headed households are particularly vulnerable, and, in desperation, they often get pushed into selling their children into child labor and child marriage in order to survive. For years, Questscope has supported education programs...
